About Me
Experience the Joy of Swimming
Just a little about me!
Fun fact! I nearly drowned, I was resuscitated at the age of 5. It can happen to anyone at any time. The anxiety water can give can be grueling not just for children but also for parents. I had so much anxiety getting back into the pool. It was terrible. But I absolutely love working with children who are nervous to get in because I have a huge understanding of what that looks like since I too battled that fear first hand. My goal is to help as many kids as I can to become successful swimmers, equipping them with all the right tools.
I played water polo practically 365 days a year for 5 years within a club, High School and some of my college years. I spent many years on a swim team as well.
I have also been teaching swim lessons for roughly 7 and a half years, teaching from as little as 3 months to adults during those 7 years.
I can teach the basics to all four strokes and help those who are doing events like triathlons, swim meets and such.
A little about my teaching technique!
My teaching method is slow and form fitting to the individual child/adult. I want every child and/or adult to feel confident in their abilities and learn progressively. If your child is not feeling it I will not make them swim. However, swimming is a life skill. I understand kids may cry but as a professional with many years behind my belt I have learned the difference from a simple cry, fake cry and the genuine need to stop or take a break. I teach a child to hold their breath and pour water over their faces. I then teach them the use of their arms. That being the second huge thing I will focus on. Statistically when you see a child drowning you see them vertical flailing their arms frantically. I want to teach them to use their arms and that energy to get them to safety whether that be in a pool where they can swim safely to the sides or learn to flip themselves over floating to reserve their energy enough to potentially try again.
Another thing to consider when going on vacation with your little ones is that the ocean and lakes do not have pool sides so teaching them these techniques of floating are also imperative especially for my lake and ocean families! Once they master arms I go into detail on kicks and how to take breaths. If your goal is to teach them freestyle or any of the main four strokes I can also go into great details regarding that as well.
Safety Statistics
All Statements below are statistics from the CDC
What is drowning?
-
Drowning is the process of experiencing respiratory impairment from submersion or immersion in liquid. Drowning is not always fatal.
Fatal drowning happens when the drowning results in death
-
Nonfatal drowning happens when a person survives a drowning incident. Nonfatal drowning has a range of outcomes, from no injuries to very serious injuries such as brain damage or permanent disability
In the United States:
-
More children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death. (This is the leading cause of death within these ages!)
-
For children ages 5–14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes.1
Every year in the United States there are an estimated:
-
4,000* fatal unintentional drownings—that is an average of 11 drowning deaths per day.
-
8,000† nonfatal drownings—that is an average of 22 nonfatal drownings per day.
A big thing to remember!

Water is and can be so much fun but it is not our friend.
Learning how to swim from a young age is so incredibly important since it is a LIFE SKILL! It is not baseball or soccer. You cannot simply learn the sport in one season. If you only use the skill for a season you can become rusty. Sure muscle memory will kick in But it is important to practice swimming throughout your entire life.
